I used my 2.5 pint Kelly kettle for the first time last weekend, it takes a little practice to get it right but when you do the results are brilliant!  3 of us were camping and we normally take 2 butane single burner gas cartridge stoves, the Kelly Kettle easily outperforms the gas and provides enough for 3 mugs of tea and enough over to to wash up with. The gas is fine for cooking on but .......

I was out in the desert near Timbuktu in Mali in January '08 and camped with some English friends who had a 'Kelly Kettle' with them.  It had been a while since I used one and with a lot of desert brush about it was easy enough to fire up.  The friends eventually traded it with some Bedouins (Tamashek) for some leatherwork and the kettle headed off on the back of a camel over the dunes.  The Tamaskek were well impressed with its simplicity and speed .....
