Details

This Stainless Steel kettle & steel fire-base boils 1.2ltrs (approximately 4 cups) of water at a time. This size is ideal for Anglers, Car Camping, Scouts, Picnics, Hunters, Garden Allotments, Caravaning Camping gear, Wilderness Survival kits, Humanitarian Aid, or anyone who works or plays in the outdoor.

A popular Green Whistle has replaced the Orange stopper on this Kettle and will let you know when the water has boiled.

Strong with nothing to fail or break, our kettles work extremely well in both good and harsh weather conditions.  They are a vital piece of camping equipment for any outdoor person. Using whatever natural fuel is lying around (twigs, dry grass, heather, Birch bark, Pine cones, dry animal dung, etc) our kettles will bring water to the boil within a matter of minutes. Never carry fuel again.

Our kettles are cost-FREE to run, eco-friendly as they operate on carbon neutral fuels, and are great fun to use. Note: Add our Pot-Support & Cook set to prepare small amounts of food (Noodles, Rice, Oatmeal, hydrate food, etc) over the kettle while your water boils. Boil and cook at the same time using only a handful of fuel!

Better still, add our Hobo Stove accessory to turn the fire base of your kettle into a stand-alone wood fuelled Camping Stove.

See our Accessories Category for these products.

Fire Base & Drawstring carrying bag are included as Standard with each Kelly Kettle. The durable steel fire base inverts up into the bottom of our kettles to make the unit as compact as possible for transport and storage.

Please note: The Kettle has been designed to boil water extremely fast in all weather conditions using very little fuel. When filled with water, the Kelly Kettle should always be carried upright to avoid any spillage/leakage from the water spout or chimney top.

Older Kettles may have an Orange Rubber or Cork Stopper. These MUST ALWAYS be removed before using the kettle. The Kettle must never be boiled with these older stoppers in the spout.

I first heard about the “storm kettle” years ago, saw a few cheap copies in shops and didn’t rate/ get the idea, then a knowledgeable friend recommend the Kelly kettle.
Being honest I bought one thinking it was a nostalgic bit of kit to play about with on trips alongside my fuel stoves……how wrong was I?! The stainless scout is a great in every aspect, so well designed and thought out, nothing to go wrong, it just works as intended. Add the hobo, and it’s limitless. This is now a main feature in my gear, and everyone who sees it wants one - I’ve ordered the trekker for day trips now too:) I love it, it’s such a great way to boil, cook and adds to the enjoyment of a trip outdoors, no more blasting gas stoves, just the gentle crackle and glow of a real fire. Get one now!!

Got the whole kit for birthday. Love a fresh cuppa out hiking and works well once you get the hang of getting it going properly. But given the cost of the whole package why not include both orange stopper and whistle? I want to carry the kettle full but the whistle leaks. I’ve bought the orange stopper separately and attached to chain along with whistle. In a well packed rucksack where you can keep it upright this works v well.

Kelly Kettle Reply: Thanks for your feedback Rachel. We removed the Orange Stopper to avoid any possible mis-use of the Kettle. Despite all our warnings etc. we still occasionally found users boiling up the Kettle with the orange stopper in the spout which can be dangerous! So we decided to simply eliminate the risk completely by removing the orange stopper and replacing it with the green whistle which allows steam to vent. Thanks again.

really good bit of kit

This is a really good bit of kit. I started with the Base kettle, this is is same just a but shorter so a lot easier to pack. I usually have a bit of standby dry wood on me though, plus a few cotton wool balls with vaseline or other fire starter, because even though there might be a lot of wood around in England it's wet a lot of the time. I love this piece of kit. Review by Lady London (Posted on 22/06/2018)
Certainly the best system I have ever used, only wish I had bought one sooner!

Hi,
Ordered my Scout Kelly Kettle with a host of accessorises which all arrived promptly.
All items are extremely well made and i am looking forward to my next trek into the wilds of Connemara.
Kelly Kettle is clearly a very professional manufacturer with clear emphasis on customer service as you would expect from a family run business, great product, great service.
I gave the Kelly Kettle a trial run and it all works perfect, certainly the best system i have ever used, only wish i had bought one sooner!
Best regards

I have owned one of these stainless kettles since 2014 and it has been on every kayak trip that my partner and i have ever done.Living in North Devon that's been a few trips. It has never let me down. however i do cheat and take a small amount of dry wood with me in a dry bag along with cotton balls and a magnesium rod. it has become a ritual now to make a cup of coffee on the beech to have with our lunch. Love this thing. Thanks Review by S Higgs (Posted on 03/09/2017)

Purchased the scout just before Christmas 2015. Took it out when we went kiting. Only took a couple of minutes to boil. Can't rate it high enough Review by greywolf (Posted on 19/01/2016)
I'm impressed!

I'm impressed. About a decade ago I read about this design on an outdoors interest web site. It sounded like a good idea with a long history. However, it wasn't available locally. I found one at an outdoors outfitter store today, on clearance sale, so used a gift card to purchase this low risk gadget.

When I got home I took the Kelly Kettle out to my outdoor cooking area to test it. (I'm writing this in December and the yard is full of snow with 20 degree F temp. = -6.667 C) I swiped some coconut fiber from one of the wife's pots and snapped some dry twigs from the bottom of the blue spruce. With this, I kindled a small fire and put on a kettle of water. In no time there was a vortex of flame in the unit. I dropped in a chunk of natural lump charcoal from my smoker. As expected, the swirling twig flames produced a faster burn, but the charcoal readily lit and proved the potential for a cook fire after boiling water, which happened quickly.

So, what to do with this "gadget" when not camping? It will find a place to live in my pick-up truck along with my fly fishing gear and a stash of tea. I believe in roughing it smoothly, with minimal impact, and little trace that I've been around. The Kelly Kettle fits that ideal.

My alltime favourite

Having used the large alu kettle for many years, it had become a bit the worse for wear. That said I decided to invest in the Scout (stainless) ultimate kit. It is much more robust than the aluminium version and will last for years and years. The hobo stove add-on is fantastic for cooking, and everything packs neatly inside the kettle, with plenty room to spare for a firesteel and a ziplock bag of cotton balls soaked in Vaseline as tinder for dozens of fireups. Everybody should own this kit, even if they don't go shooting, fishing or camping as it is a great standby at home during power cuts etc. Coffee bacon and eggs in the garden here I come !!! I couldn't be happier with my Kelly Kettle and will be bringing it on future expeditions.

On my last expedition a friend and I paddled a canoe 600 miles down the Srepok and Mekong rivers through Cambodia and Vietnam. Along the way we stopped in several villages to teach CPR and abdominal thrusts for choking emergencies.
We needed a stove which could boil lots of water efficiently without burning up several bottles of hard to find liquid fuel over the weeks we paddled down the river. Kelly Kettle offered the perfect solution, an efficient burning wood stove which is excellent at boiling quantities of water as well as for cooking on. We even used our Medium Stainless Kettle with a Power Pot to keep an iPad and speaker charged for teaching classes and since the Kelly Kettle burns wood, we essentially had an unlimited supply of electricity.
We burned lots of fuel types like bamboo, leaves, bushes, drift wood, bark, and more. We almost always had a good fuel source to burn but for the few cases when we camped on a sandy island with no wood, we used an alcohol burner as a backup which works well to boil water in the kettle or cook on using only the fire base.
I couldn't be happier with my Kelly Kettle and will be bringing it on future expeditions.

Serious must have!

After using my Kelly Kettle it was love at first boil, the stainless steel scout model has not let me down in fishing trips, camping, car trips to the beach etc.
The design is so simple and yet so effective - if it can burn you have fuel for a brew!
it really is that simple!
so many times I used to faff around with gas refills that hated cold weather (and wind!) the Kelly Kettle laughs in the face of a windy day and boils even faster!!! all I ever need with me is a bit of dry tinder - which compared to gas bottles is an absolute space and weight saver!
Using it at the beach was a doddle for a picnic - dry driftwood, seagrass, buckthorn and seaweed all burnt perfectly, Just the right size for 2 people to have a brew and some pasta. going to have to add the hobo and cup set next (well it all packs together anyway!) to save me carrying any more gear than needed. This cooking system is perfect!

I bought the Stainless Steel medium scout after being let down a few times on fishing and camping trips by my coleman 533 stove, which by the way went straight in the dustbin after letting me down on a recent trip to Wales, without my Kelly Kettle we would have had to go without food and hot drinks for the remainder of our trip, so simple to use, nothing to go wrong, fast and efficient it's a no brainer if your the outdoor type you need a Kelly. I am very fond of my Kettle. Sturdy quality, years and years of service and except that sometimes its harder to find dry twigs then others I haven,t found a single issue I would wanna improve (except maybe a bit sturdier bag).
The Scout for me is excactly the right size for 2 people. For single trips i will get me a Trekker model in Alu as well.

Possibly the best outdoor related thing I have ever owned!
Rate this product?
I just wanted to say a big thanks for possibly the best outdoor related thing I have ever owned. Had my scout kettle for just over a year, and now it is not an 'occasional' use item for camping, it has replaced my petrol and gas stoves. (Especially after adding the hobo stove). Not only is it incredibly practical and insanely fast, it is also good fun to use, and when used in a basecamp style way, collecting suitable fuel for the the duration gives you something to do if you get a bit bored.
I have probably now convinced at least 5 people to get one.
